Born in a family of 10 siblings at Uyanwatta, Mawanella.
EDUCATION: Studied at Thalathuoya Central College for 8 years up to university entrance. Attended Moratuwa University, Katubedde Campus reading Architectural Studies for 3 years and proceeded on a post-graduate scholarship to Copenhagen, Denmark in 1970. During the 2 ½ year stint in Denmark, visited many architectural master-pieces and building sites within Denmark, Italy, Greece, East and West Germany, Finland, Stockholm including a trip by ship from Copenhagen to Scotland. Graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts with B. Arch.
EXPERIENCE: 1972: Returned to Sri Lanka, worked at State Engineering Corporation as a Design Architect for 2 years.
1974: Migrated to Vancouver, B.C., Canada. Worked as a Senior Architect on a few building projects for 2 years and flew to India on a 3-week sight-seeing holiday. Visited several marvels of architectural heritage in various parts of the sub-continent.
1976: Proceeded to Sri Lanka on a 5-week holiday, found the soul partner Nafeeha, got married and 7 days after returned to Vancouver. Nafeeha joined him 4 months after and both worked in Vancouver for the next 9 years. Worked as a Senior Architect on several multi-storey Office towers, Schools, Recreation Centres, Indoor Pool, a multi-purpose fully covered Stadium (with air-supported, inflated Teflon coated fabric roof) which accommodated 60,000 spectators. After 10 years in Vancouver, took up another design position in Toronto to design a multi-purpose , fully covered stadium (with slide-open vaulted roof) in downtown Toronto. Drove from Vancouver to Montreal on a 3 week holiday (5,000 km).
1985-1990: Madinah, Saudi Arabia. Worked as Senior Architect/Project Manager for an American Architectural Engineering (AE) Consultancy to construct 2068 single-family villas on a site of 1.25x 1.75 km which took 4 years to complete and handover.
1990: Moved to Dubai, worked for a Canadian AE firm as a Senior Architect on a Luxury, award-winning office tower for Etisalat. After handover, joined Etisalat as the Chief Architect to build luxury head offices in each Emirate of the UAE which involved holding design competitions and select world-renowned AE firms to design and build world-class office towers for this prestigious crown corporation. 12 years in the UAE.
2012-2014: In India with an American Project Management firm to construct multimillion dollar Residential and commercial building projects in Gurgaon and Mumbai.
2016: Returned to Sri Lanka. Currently living 6 months in Colombo and 6 months in North America.
He was involved in many projects in this very established firm of architects. He worked in the Etisalat projects in Dubai where he was responsible for the design and construction of the balls in the tower which became a significant trademark.
He was also employed in Saudi Arabia in mega projects of construction of quality housing comprising up to over 2500 houses.
